It’s Back – The 2011 Derby Dozen!

Buckle up folks, here comes Volume I of the 2011 WirePlayers Derby Dozen. I’ve enlisted friends from the blogosphere, Twittersphere, and Facebookosphere to track the leading Kentucky Derby contenders. With so many “Derby Dozen” lists out, why is this different?  Because this one is “crowd sourced” – well, kinda anyway.  It’s not based on one person’s opinion, but many persons’ opinions. Like the BCS poll, but without the artifice and manipulation.

The KY Derby is like Christmas for horse racing fans and you have to start planning early if you want to enjoy the full experience. I start getting ready for Christmas early too, in fact, my tree’s already up!

Take a look at our list and allow me to draw your attention to #12, DIALED IN. He’s running in an Allowance at Gulfstream Park on Friday and if the price is right, I might have a few of my dollars riding on his backside. If he’s on the Derby Dozen next time then I won; if he’s not, well, the less said, the better.

Many thanks to our Derby Dozen panel!

  1. I love it! I was so happy you put my Uncle Mo comment in, I was pretty happy about it!! 🙂

Thanks for letting me be a part of the Dozen again this year Steve!

  2. Dylan J. says:

Steve, that Allowance race at Gulfstream on Friday has come up very tough. Should be a good race.

  3. Steve says:

Brian, it’s great to have you aboard for another run up to the roses; should be a fun ride.

  4. Steve says:

Really looking foward to Friday’s race; very solid group. Overall, I’d take this field over the G3 Lecomte running at FG Saturday. In fact, I believe 3 of 8 horses entered received “Derby Dozen” votes and that doesn’t include the ML favorite SOLDAT or McPeek’s dangerous runner HALO’s THUNDER (w/ turf-to-dirt and “blinkers on” angles in play).

Hoping DIALED IN gets some pace to run down, but I’ll also be taking a look at the Afleet Alex colt MAS TRUENO on the end in the 8 hole. He may have woke up on the dirt, has a good pilot, and the price is right (15-1); that’s some sweet action!

I would have already lost the Quinonez pool. I had it at 1/1/2011. 😉

Was secretly hoping that DECISIVE MOMENT would get some more votes (as more than me). LOL. The comment was pure gold! 🙂

    (as in “more than me”)*

  7. Dylan J. says:

Steve, I agree this field may be better than the one at the Fairgrounds on Saturday. I also thought Financial Empire was interesting, shows consistent works and making his three year old debut.

  8. List looks good my Derby Dozen brethren (no pun intended). Glad I could be a part of it and thanks to Steve for putting it all together.

Another snow day here in greater Boston, so I’ll have Gulfstream on while I play with my kids.

  9. Steve says:

Happy to have on the team this year.

Down in DC we’ve been barely missing all those big snowstorms. Enjoy the snow day with the family and good luck @ GP!
